Rick, this is so fabulous!

The first scholarship winner has just been chosen.  Her name is Deborah
A. Taber, and we gave her $1,000, making up the difference between that
and the $300 the Dickson Fund has already sent us from Clarion West's
funds.  The additional amount you're sending now will allow us to
re-allocate $375 from CW funds to emergency scholarship assistance
during the workshop.

Deborah was selected to receive the scholarship because of her
combination of need and merit.  I was especially happy with her
selection once I saw her submission story, which was a true science
fiction story rather than fantasy.  I expect future scholarship winners
to come from either genre, but I like the idea of the first one being an
sf writer.

Thanks again.  I look forward to receiving the check, and to a long,
cheerful association with the Dickson Fund.
